Claxton Elementary School receives $5000 grant from TVA
Anderson County Schools Thanks TVA, BVI, and CUB for $5,000 Grant Donation to Claxton Elementary School
Anderson County Schools is grateful to the Tennessee Valley Authority, BVI, and Clinton Utilities Board for their generous $5,000 grant donation to Claxton Elementary School. This funding will support an innovative, hands-on energy education project that will help students explore energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and real-world problem solving.
As Claxton Elementary prepares to move into a new school building on a new campus, students and staff have a unique opportunity to think about energy-efficient practices before construction is completed. Through this grant-funded project, students will take on the roles of energy detectives, engineers, and designers as they study different types of energy, investigate energy use in their current school building, and create proposals for how their new school can be more energy efficient.
The project will include learning opportunities for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, with each grade level focusing on energy studies that align with their science standards. For example, fourth-grade students will explore energy transfer and may investigate the cost of electrical energy used by various devices throughout the building. First-grade students, who are already engaged in a project-based learning unit called “Powering Our Town,” will identify the many ways energy connects to everyday life.
In addition to energy efficiency, students will also study ways to reduce environmental impacts through recycling, composting, and supporting the school garden. Students will have opportunities to design and create prototypes that can be tested in the current building, giving them practical experience in applying classroom learning to real-world challenges.
“We are extremely thankful to TVA, BVI, and CUB for this generous grant and for investing in the students of Claxton Elementary School,” said Anderson County Schools. “This funding will help create meaningful learning experiences that connect science standards to real-life applications while encouraging students to think critically about energy use, conservation, and caring for the environment.”
Anderson County Schools appreciates the continued support of community and utility partners who help make innovative learning opportunities possible for students. This grant will empower Claxton Elementary students to play an active role in shaping a more energy-conscious and environmentally responsible future for their new school.
