Anderson County School District

Every Student, Every Day

What is Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS)?

Tennessee's Early Intervention System is a voluntary educational program for families with children birth through age two with disabilities or developmental delays.

The principles of Early Intervention are to:

  • Support families in promoting their child's optimal development
  • Facilitate the child's participation in family and community activites
  • Encourage the active participation of families in the intervention by embedding strategies into family routines

It is the parents who provide the real early intervention by creatively adapting their child care methods to facilitate the development of their child, while balancing the needs of the rest of the family.

What happens when my child turns 3?

Preschool educational services are available to children with disabilities age three through five who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

If your child has been receiving services through Tennessee's Early Intervention System (TEIS), your service coordinator, with your permission, will schedule a transition meeting with the school system to discuss the next steps.   For information regarding services for children aged three through five who may have a disability, parents should contact:
