ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Anderson County Schools has a teacher, principal and a director up for statewide awards.
Chrissy Rose, a third grade teacher at Grand Oaks Elementary, is one of nine teachers up for Teacher of the Year.
“I’ve wanted to be a teacher my whole life so seeing it play out this way is a shock,” Rose said. “I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’ve had great support throughout the whole process from colleagues and my principal and everybody in the county just cheering me on. It’s been awesome.”
The principal at Grand Oaks Elementary, Jessica Conatser, is a semi-finalist for Tennessee Principal of the Year.
“I feel like we have the best school in the state of Tennessee. I feel like we have amazing educators in our school,” Conatser said.
The director of student services with Anderson County Schools, Paula Sellers, is a semi-finalist for Tennessee Supervisor of the Year.
The director of schools for Anderson County, Dr. Tim Parrott, said it’s a major accomplishment for the school district having these three as a finalist and semi-finalists for these awards, but they don’t do it for the awards.
“I think it just goes to prove that we’ve got fantastic teachers and staff and that they really and truly care about every student every day,” Dr. Parrott said. “Every decision we make is what’s best for a student and when you make those decisions for what’s best for a student, you can’t go wrong with that.”
Dr. Parrott was also awarded East Tennessee Superintendent of the Year.
“I was chosen by those people I work with day in and day out. I’ve been doing it for quite a while and to be recognized by them is really humbling,” Dr. Parrott said.
The winner of Teacher of the Year is expected to be announced this month with the other awards getting announced in the fall.
