Anderson County Schools Announces Ben Downs as Director of Secondary Education

Anderson County Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Ben Downs as the new Director of Secondary Education. With over 20 years of experience in education, Mr. Downs brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and a deep passion for student success to this new role.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Downs has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and for the past eight years, as the highly respected principal of Anderson County High School. Under his leadership, the school achieved numerous accolades, including designation as a Tennessee Reward School and earning Mr. Downs recognition as Principal of the Year. His dedication to fostering a positive school culture, strengthening academic programs, and supporting both students and educators has left a lasting and positive impact on the Anderson County Schools community.

In his new role as Director of Secondary Education, Mr. Downs is excited to serve Anderson County’s high schools and the Anderson County Innovation Academy (ACIA). He looks forward to building strong leadership teams, elevating instructional practices, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their highest potential.

Outside of his professional achievements, Mr. Downs is a dedicated family man. He is married to Carey Downs, assistant principal at Norris Middle School, and is the proud father of two sons who also attend Norris. An active member of the community, Mr. Downs coaches his sons’ baseball teams, attends church at Sterchi Hills, and is an avid supporter of Tennessee Tech, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
