Grade Level: Kindergarten
Content Area: Patterns
Skills: Left to Right
Prerequisites:
Instructional Practices: Estimations, Reasoning, Connections to the Real World
Materials Needed:
Teacher Made Pattern Sleeve and Slip (See Teacher Made Materials)
Technology: Pattern Block
Activity:
Teacher slides the pattern strip from the sleeve as the students "read" the pattern. The teacher should expose the pattern one object at a time requiring students to re-read the "whole" pattern each time.
Pattern Sleeves should be used all year long to continue the development of the skills.
Theme Ideas:
Use different pictures on your pattern sleeves to intergrate theme or unit of study. As the
year progresses, change your pattern strips to develop into stronger more complex
patterns. Remember to use both sides of your strip to save paper and space.
