Materials Needed: Dot chart, markers
Technology: Pattern Blocks
Activity:
The teacher begins a pattern on the dot chart. (See teacher made materials) Use simple patterns for the first few experiences. The children help complete the pattern until the dot chart is completely filled in. The children then use words and body motions to describe the pattern. Example: up-down; over-under; curved-straight; etc.
Translate the pattern on the dot chart by writing letters under the pattern. Isolate the
pattern by circling each group of letters. Do this activity several times a day with the same
pattern. Change original pattern each day.
