Activity:
The blacklines can be cut and stapled into books for each child. These can be completed at a center, one page at a time or the entire book at a time, depending on grade level.
Page 1: The children sort the flowers into 3 groups and count and record the totals.
Page 2: The children fill the flower pot with one size of flowers, count and record how many. The children may be asked to record the estimate on the pot and the total number on the flower.
Page 3: The children feel each bag of seeds and put them in order from lightest to heaviest. They record the answer by writing the letters that match the bags on the recording sheet.
Page 4: The children estimate how far up the jar 5 scoops of seeds will go by drawing a line. Then the fill the jar with 5 scoops and record the answer.
Page 5: The children write their name on a small flower. They stand by the large flower
taped to the wall and tape their small flower to the wall the show their height. When all
children have completed this activity, each child finds one person shorter and one person
taller than they are and record their names on the recording sheet.
Theme Ideas:
These same types of activities can be done with pumpkins, etc. in the fall; presents, tinsel,
etc. at Christmas; styrofoam balls for snowballs in Winter. See the blacklines for these
