SKILLS: Construct a circle and identify radius and diameter
PREREQUISITES: 5.0 grade level in reading and math
INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES:
Following written directions; identify radius and diameter of a constructed circle
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Square sheet of paper; pencil; colored markers; attached worksheets

ACTIVITY:
Using the worksheet "Taking the Round out of Square", the student will follow written
instructions to construct a circle. When the circle is completed, the student will identify
the radius and diameter of the circle. Once the radius and diameter are measured, the
student can use his/her circle to make a six pointed or eight pointed star (using the
appropriate worksheets as guides).
THEME IDEAS:
This activity can be integrated into a study of the solar system; an art activity; and/or a
reading activity involving following written instructions.
