SKILLS: Making change using bills and coins up to one and ten thousands

PREREQUISITES: 5.0 grade level reading and math

INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES:

Computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), geometry, creativity, statistics, measurements, and relate to real life situations.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Attached worksheets cut into cards and laminated; construction paper with markers; pencil and paper; rulers and yardsticks; and various geometric shapes.

ACTIVITY:

Students will either chose a card or the teacher will chose a card for the student. The student will follow the card's instructions. This activity can be used as a center where children either work individually or with a peer.

THEME IDEAS:

Cards may be added or taken away in order to integrate this activity into a theme or unit of study and to provide remedial support or enrichment. The teacher will be able to determine which cards are appropriate for which students.
