Activity:
Can We Buy It?
After gluing pictures of items on each index card, price the item with a marker. Number
each card numerically from 1-number of students you have. Give each child an item priced
index card. Also, give each child play money (children do not have to have the same
amount). The children will then number a sheet of paper 1 to number of cards given. They
will then count the amount of money given to them and record that amount at the top of
their page. Teacher will then check to see if each child has recorded the correct amount.
Next, the item card will be looked at to decide: Do I have enough money to purchase this
item? If I don't, how much more do I need. If I do, how much money will I have left?
After the children examine the item priced index card they have, they record the
information you asked for on the pre-numbered sheet of paper on orresponding numbered
line. Last, they exchange cards and repeat the process.
Theme Ideas: Can be used with Write-to-Write Form II Unit 3.
