Prerequisites:
Identify shapes (plane and solid), research various communities (see communities in
activity section of this sheet), completed community grid sheet in prior lesson, and
knowledge of above geometric terms-

Materials Needed: Girded, squared poster board from activity on ordered pairs, any plane and
solid figure shapes, example: Styrofoam balls, paper roll cylinders, milk cartons,
shapes from die cut, string or yarn-

Activity:
Students are grouped to build communities, for example: industrial, farm and
agriculture, shopping, mining, logging, fishing/wildlife or other natural resources,
communities, native Americans communities, military, college and political community
(Washington D.C.). Students should only use the SKILLS listed above to build their
community. The students refer to their completed ordered pairs grid sheet to build the
community from formed geometric shapes. When finished, students share their
community with class demonstrating a knowledge of all SKILLS LISTED ABOVE.
