Reading for Information
Materials Needed: Teacher made "Bar Graph" with information about the circus. Also a blank
"Bar Graph" could be used to gather information as an extension to this activity.
Activity: Give each group of students a bar graph to study and discuss. Then ask each
student a question requiring the use of that data. For example, if the graph showed how
many circus animals had stripes, how many circus animals had spots and how many circus
animals were a solid color with no stripes or spots, the teacher could ask the students
questions about this information and the student would use the graph to answer the
questions.
Theme Ideas:
Any information concerning the "Circus" could be used by the teacher to make a bar graph
and to interpret the data. An extension of this activity would be for the students to make
their own.
