Technology: Talking Clock
Activity:
To introduce the topic of telling time to the hour, the teacher will ask the students if they know a rhyme about clocks or time. The class will do a choral reading of Hickory Dickory Dock on the chartlet. The teacher will introduce the hour hand and minute hand on the large teacher clock. The students will demonstrate the same with their individual clocks. The teacher will orally state times and have students demonstrate the time with their manipulative clocks. The teacher will write various times and have students demonstrate the time on their clocks. In closing the activity, the teacher will read the literature selection.
Students will break up into centers and work on the computer with Talking Clock, work
with the manipulative clocks, and construct a manipulative clock with the handout.
Theme Ideas:
When teaching Insects and Spiders, this lesson could be done with the literature selection
