Activity:

The teacher will show the class a large candy bar still in its wrapper. The teacher will explain that she wants to share the candy bar with the class so she will break into small pieces. The teacher will strike the candy bar against a desk to break into different size pieces. The students should comment that this isn't fair because not all the pieces are the same size. Ask the students for ideas on how to divide the candy bar fairly.

The teacher can read the literature selection for added enrichment and follow up to this activity.
