Growth Through Adventure
ACSESS Breakaway and ACSESS Limited are experiential-based programs utilizing a variety of interactive and adventure activities designed to assist youth in building confidence, and developing healthy life skills for dealing with stresses and conflicts they face today.
The Program Philosophy focuses on inciting a desire in young people to learn, grow, and recognize their individual potential through challenging and successful experiences. The ACSESS / Breakaway and ACSESS Limited Programs will assist students in making positive life choices, and direct them toward a healthy, productive, and successful future.
ACSESS / Breakaway (9th - 12th grade students) They Key Components of the ACSESS / Breakaway program are:
Parent Involvement - Parents and students participate in eight group sessions focusing on conflict resolution, communication, anger management, peer pressure, trust, healthy choices, and other essential life skills. Groups meet once weekly during the evening for two hours.
Goal Setting - Students will set and work towards completing four goals in the areas of School Performance, Family Relations, Personal Growth, and Service Learning
Breakaway Wilderness Experience - Students will participate in a unique five day, four night backpacking experience focusing on personal growth, values clarification, and self-empowerment.
ACSESS Limited (6th-8th grade students) The key components of the ACSESS Limited program are:
Adventure Activities - Students will be involved in two day-long adventures including rock climbing, ropes course, and mountain biking.
Parent Involvement - Parents and students participate in six group sessions focusing on conflict resolution, communication, anger management, peer pressure, trust, healthy choices and other essential life skills. Groups meet once weekly during the evening for 1 1/2 hours.
Goals - Students will set and work toward completing three goals in the areas of School Performance, Family Relations, and Personal Growth.
In all activities, the emphasis is on safety and providing and experience with the elements of perceived risk. The program's Adventure Specialist have been training in facilitating and leading adventure activities and wilderness experiences. In addition, staff are certified as Wilderness First Responders.
